5 Wine Themed Ways to Celebrate Halloween

This spooky season we’re ditching tricks and indulging in wine-filled treats. Happy Halloween!

The spooky season is upon us and there’s no better way to celebrate than with wine! Okay, maybe it’s all about the candy for younger folks, but those with a more refined palate deserve something too!

That’s why we’ve got a little bit of everything. Prefer to celebrate with food? We’ve got you! Want a romantic evening fit for Gomez and Morticia Adams? Of course! Read on and discover a few ways to get in the spooky spirit that don’t involve any tricks, just treats.

Plan a Halloween Wine Tasting

If you’ve been dreaming of throwing a Halloween party, then this is your sign. Instead of a punch bowl of mystery fruit juice, however, we’re opting for something a little more elevated.

So get a sitter for the kids, slap up your favorite scary decorations, and let’s get this Halloween Wine Tasting started! Costumes can be optional, but delicious food and wine pairings are a must. A variety of wines and foods is best for a seasonal soiree such as this, so a bit of planning is necessary.

You could go so far as to design Halloween themed foods like carefully decorated desserts, or you could simply serve your favorites in fall or Halloween themed dishes. There are honestly a TON of different food and wine combinations you could offer, so feel free to get creative or check out our Fall Seasonal Wine Pairings Guide.

Two other important elements for a Halloween party include entertainment and drinks! For the former, you could plan something classic like bobbing for apples. However, for something with less set-up and potentially less clean up, a costume contest complete with runway presentation is a great way to get everyone involved.

And speaking of drinks…

Craft Spooky Wine Cocktails

Whether you want a nice wine cocktail for a party or just for enjoying while handing out candy, these are sure to please.

For a Halloween sangria, throw some grapes in the freezer (these will be your eyeballs), stir together your favorite citrus fruits (we recommend orange, lime, and lemon) with a splash of brandy and a few cinnamon sticks, pour your favorite bottle of red wine on top, and then chill overnight. When you’re ready to serve, simply add a can of ginger ale, add your “eyeballs” to a glass, top with sangria, and voila! Plus, as an added bonus, the grapes will keep your drink cold without watering it down.

If you’re looking for something without the added carbs, be sure to check out our Low-Carb Fall Wine Cocktails. We’ve got everything from an Apple & Ginger Spritzer with Low-Carb Chardonnay to our favorite Red Wine Hot Chocolate with Low-Carb Merlot. Yes, please!

Upcycle Wine Bottles With Halloween Arts and Crafts

For arts and crafts activities you can do with your kids, upcycling old wine bottles is the way to go. Our 5 Ways to Recycle Wine Bottles blog gives you details on things like turning bottles into vases, glasses, and more. However, don’t forget to put a spooky spin on things!

You could paint ghosts and ghouls on newly created cups or you could even add blood-red drips to your new upcycled candle holder. The sky’s the limit, so get creative.

Plan a Halloween Themed Date Night for Two

For those who prefer a spooky romance, there’s nothing wrong with planning a Halloween date night. Here are just a few directions you could take this idea…

  • Dress up as your favorite Halloween “couple” and go to your favorite restaurant or cook a spooky meal at home. We’re thinking couples like Morticia and Gomez, Beetlejuice and Lydia, Jack Skellington and Sally, etc.
  • Do a Halloween photo shoot! This is a great way to capture the evening and it can be as complex or as simple as you want. You and your partner could take pumpkin head pictures, goofy couples costume pictures, etc.
  • Make a bonfire, grab some blankets, and eat s’mores. That’s it!
  • Go to a haunted house together. Obviously, we’re talking about the professional ones that people put together, although you’re welcome to go to an actual haunted house…if you dare. Either way, there’s just something about a good scare that brings people closer together.

And obviously, you can do all of these things with a glass of wine before, during, or after. Duh!

Throw a Spooky Movie Marathon Complete with Wine Pairings

If Halloween is all about the movie scares, then there’s nothing wrong with sitting at home with popcorn and wine while watching a good movie. Plus, we’ve already put together a list of horror movies and the wines that complement them!

That may sound silly, but some of these are classics! Seriously, you’ll have to check out our Horror and Wine Pairings to see what we mean.
