Food and Wine Pairings to Celebrate Summer

From summer brunches to backyard barbeques, here are a few of our favorite food and wine pairings to celebrate the summer season.

For those living in the northern hemisphere, summer officially starts on June 21st. That means early morning sunshine, seeking shade in the afternoon, and as much fun and frolicking as you can possibly fit into your schedule. Our favorite part? Summer food and wine pairings!

This time of year has TONS of occasions that are absolutely perfect for a bottle of wine and some of your favorite eats. As a general rule, the summer is an excellent time for chilled wines and moderate tannins and body…but we know you’re a rule breaker 😉

So, whether you’re sticking to summer pairing classics or finding your own unique combos, here are a few of our favorite food and wine pairings to celebrate the summer season.

Catch That Summer Brunch Vibe with Seafood and Chardonnay

Okay, maybe this is a bit on the boujee side, but we did say we were “celebrating” the summer. Plus, who doesn’t love seafood with white wine?!

There’s just something about decadent seafood covered in butter that makes you feel like you’re on vacation. If you’re hitting your favorite brunch spot, we highly recommend ordering lobster rolls or crab cakes. Prepping your own brunch? Incorporate LOTS of melted butter, fresh chives, shallots, and fresh herbs like rosemary and tarragon.

For these seaside meals, you can’t go wrong with a buttery Chardonnay. This particular bottle is versatile and soft. Plus, when it’s lightly chilled you’ll pick up on the crisp flavors of pear and apple. Enjoy.

Craft an Easy Breezy Summer Picnic with Watermelon, Feta, and Rosé

Looking for something quick to throw together for a summer picnic or outdoor gathering? Our Balsamic Watermelon Feta Salad is crisp, refreshing, and far more satisfying than your average salad.

Watermelon is a summertime staple and for good reason! It’s crisp, juicy, and perfectly sweet. Plus, its high water content actually makes it a tasty way to stay hydrated. Remember that the watermelon can get soggy pretty fast, so it’s best prepared right before serving to keep the other ingredients crisp and the watermelon cold.

A floral rosé will really balance out the sweet and acidic notes of this recipe. Our Palo61 Toscana Rosato has a medium body with notes of raspberry and rose. It’s made from Sangiovese and Syrah grapes harvested from vineyards in the Pisan Hills of Tuscany.

Impress with Beef, Pork, and Pinot Noir at Your Backyard Barbecue

For many parts of the world, grilling meat on the grill is a quintessential summer activity—or any time of year that it’s warm enough to get away with it. That’s why we’ve opted for a wine that pairs well with several different proteins.

If pork ribs are your favorite grilled meat, then the well-balanced, silky mouthfeel of Pinot Noir is the perfect pairing. Pork ribs can have smoky, rich, caramelized flavors with a juicy sweetness that can’t be beaten. Pairing them with the fruity aroma of this beloved bottle just makes sense.

Its versatility also lends itself to things like smoked beef brisket or even a juicy, medium-rare burger. Yes, you read that right. Beef can be on the heavy side, so the velvety texture of this bottle will match that succulence while elevating the savory quality of beef with its fruity aroma.

Simplify Summer Dates with One-Pan Sesame Chicken and Pinot Grigio

Yes, you could go out for a romantic evening at a fine dining establishment.  On the other hand, a date night at home that involves cooking together can be even more intimate.

While you can absolutely use this as an excuse to show off your culinary skills, we’re opting for something relatively simple to throw together, leaves fewer dishes, and still tastes delicious. That way dinner won’t suffer if you happen to get a bit distracted.

While you may have to purchase a few new items for this recipe, you’ll be glad you did! Ingredients like sesame oil and rice vinegar are surprisingly versatile and can turn boring meals into bright, aromatic masterpieces. Plus, it looks way more complicated than it really is, and it’s absolutely divine when paired with our Pinot Grigio.

It’s a beautiful golden yellow-white wine with the rich, fruity aroma of apple and pear. A hint of citrus elevates this bottle into something clean, crisp, and pairs SO well with chicken dishes.
