Wine and candy aren’t two things that are traditionally low-carb…but today they are! Read on for our low-carb wine-infused candy recipe.
Tis the season! It’s the season for holiday cheer, gifting, gathering with friends and family, and for all of the traditional December food and drink. If you’re trying to watch your carbs, however, that last item can be really tricky. Whether it’s the drinks that are definitely not keto-friendly or all the sugar-laden sweets…the holidays can wreak havoc on your wellness goals.
But what if you could have your cake and eat it too? More specifically, what if you could have that glass of wine and some candy too? That’s right! We’re giving you our recipe for Low-Carb Wine-Infused Candies!
To be fair, our wine is always low-carb. Candy, however, is usually packed with sugary carbs that, while delicious, can leave you plummeting from that initial sweet rush into a pool of fatigue. Fortunately, these candies are simple to make, quick to set, and still absolutely delicious.
Plus, if you’ve waited till the last minute to shop, these make an excellent homemade gift 😉
Ingredients and Supplies for Low-Carb Wine-Infused Gummies
One of the best parts of this recipe is that you probably already have most of the ingredients.
One of the things you may have to go shopping for is a candy mold. While you’re more than welcome to simply make these into a sheet and then cut them into desired shapes, there’s something so simple and fun about making these candies into special shapes.
Silicon molds make it particularly easy to remove the gummies once they’re set, but it’s entirely up to you when it comes to their shape. You could make traditional gummy bears, or you could do something more seasonal like snowflakes, tree ornaments, or stars. If you can’t find something you like at your local stores, you’ll find a ton of options online.
Finally, you’ll need your wine of choice, a confectioners sugar substitute (we recommend Xylitol powder or Swerve), and unflavored gelatin. Depending on the size of your molds, having a small dropper handy can make it easier to add the mixture to the molds. Other than that, however, that’s it!
Wine Recommendations for Low-Carb Wine-Infused Candies
As for your wine of choice, we’ve got recommendations for red, white, and rosé lovers. If you prefer red wines, we suggest you go with something like our Pinot Noir or Castellani Chianti. The former has fruity aromas and a velvet texture that will make your gummies a luxurious treat, while the latter has delicious notes of violets, dark chocolate, and cherries.
If you’d like to use white wine, then you can’t go wrong with Tenuta di Ceppaiano. This wine has tropical notes of lychee and delicate floral aromas that will make your gummies particularly delectable. Finally, our PALO61, Toscana Rosato has flavors of raspberries and rose.
How to Make Low-Carb Wine-Infused Gummies
Once you have all of your ingredients, putting these together is surprisingly easy.
Using medium-low heat, warm up a quarter cup of your wine in a saucepan. Once it’s heated through, add two and a half tablespoons of powdered gelatin. If you only have gelatin sheets, remember that one tablespoon of powdered gelatin is roughly equal to three sheets of gelatin.
Whisk the mixture of gelatin and wine until they’re mostly combined. Then turn the heat to low and continue whisking until it’s completely liquid and the gelatin has fully dissolved.
Turn the heat completely off, but leave the saucepan on the burner so the residual heat can continue warming the mixture. At this point, you’ll want to whisk in a quarter cup of your confectioner’s sugar substitute. Continue mixing until it’s completely dissolved.
Using either a spoon or a dropper (depending on the size of your molds) fill the individual candy molds with your mixture. Again, if you’d prefer to simply use a cake pan, that’s totally fine! You’ll need to let it set for much longer, but once they’re set you can simply cut out your desired shapes.
Place your mold or pan into the refrigerator and allow them to set for at least thirty minutes (if using a pan then let them set for at least an hour). Once they’re completely set you can remove them from the molds and enjoy them immediately! If you plan to give them as a gift, however, we recommend keeping them in the refrigerator until the last possible moment so they retain their shape.
Eat, Enjoy, Repeat! Just Skip the Carbs
This is a phenomenal recipe for celebrations, parties, or even for just an end-of-week celebration. Basically, try this out any time you need a sweet treat without the added carbs!
