Can low-carb wine be sweet wine? If you like floral and fruity aromatic notes, then yes!
We get it. Sometimes you just want something with a hint of sweetness. If you’re trying to lower your carb intake, however, this can be a problem. Most sweet wines on the market are packed with added sugar that will quickly take you OUT of ketosis. Even if you’re not on the keto diet, all that sugar can do unhealthy things to your glucose levels. But can low-carb wine give you the feeling of a sweet treat without ruining your progress? Yes!
Our low-carb wines are free of added sugar but that doesn’t mean you’ll miss out on fruity and floral flavors. The trick to switching from sugar-packed wines to low-carb wines is to focus on the aromatic notes. Obviously, that initial hit of sweetness won’t be there, but you will notice the specific fruits and botanicals that went into creating each bottle.
That’s why we challenge YOU to a low-carb “sweet” wine tasting! Get a few friends together, bring a selection of low-carb wines, and discover how delicious low-carb wine can be—no added sugar necessary. Don’t know how to get started? We’ve got you covered!
Read on for five of our “sweetest” low-carb wines that are packed full of mouthwatering fruity and floral flavors.
SECCO Wine Club “Sweet” Wines
We freely admit that our wines don’t have a lot of sugar. Actually, since they don’t have added sugar, the wines we’ve included in our list all have less than .5 grams of sugar per glass. So, how on earth do these qualify as “sweet” wines?
First, we highly recommend you read our blog The Art of Wine Tasting. In it, we cover how to enjoy the aroma, taste, and texture of any wine so as to fully experience all of its subtle nuances. In doing so, you’ll notice the flavor and aroma of ingredients like blueberries, peaches, roses, lychee, and MORE!
If you’re REALLY missing the sugar, you can always pump up the flavors by sampling each wine with the actual fruit used to make it. Conversely, you could pair your wines with complementary foods to bring out certain flavors. Need a few ideas? Give our Wine Pairing 101 a quick peek for details. If you’re trying to stay in ketosis, however, remember to account for any carbs or sugars in your food pairings.
Ready to dive in? Here are seven of our “sweet” wines that we think you should include in your low-carb wine tasting party.
Tenuta Santa Lucia
Blueberry is a particularly hard flavor to get just right. They’re light, delicately sweet, and dark without too much pucker. But blueberry lovers everywhere will love our Tenuta Santa Lucia. This medium-bodied wine is surprisingly fresh with intense notes of blueberries and cherries.
PALO61, Toscana Rosato
You didn’t think we’d talk about sweet wines without mentioning a rosé, did you? Of course not! This particular bottle is produced with a selection of Sangiovese and Syrah grapes from the Pisan hills in Tuscany. Reach for this bottle if you’re interested in a medium-bodied wine with delicate notes of raspberry and rose.
Guadalmare, Morellino di Scansano
Do you prefer darker fruits like blackberries? Then you’ll love our Guadalmare, Morellino di Scansano. This bottle is the result of careful selection in the restricted production area located in Maremma, in the zone of production situated in the Southern part of Tuscany. It’s particularly aromatic with notes of blackberries, cherries, and violet.
Tenuta di Ceppaiano, Toscana
If you’re a lover of exotic fruit, then you won’t be able to get enough of this bottle. The grapes for our Tenuta di Ceppaiano are fermented for long periods in tanks at very low temperatures to keep intact the intensity of the aromatic Traminer. The result? A crisp, floral wine with mouthwatering notes of lychee.
Santa Lucia Toscana Bianco
Want to keep the tropical theme going? Then you HAVE to try our Santa Lucia Toscana Bianco. You’ll love the sweet tropical notes of pineapple and banana complemented by a floral fragrance of acacia and hay. Similar to a chardonnay, it has moderate acidity and a medium body.
Castellani, Pinot Grigio delle Venezie
And last, but certainly not least, is our Castellani, Pinot Grigio delle Venezie. When chilled, this pinot grigio is refreshing, more acidic than a chardonnay, and infused with the flavors of apples, peaches, and hawthorne.
